Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans
Pharmacy-Filled Prescriptions Are Covered Under Part “D”
Medications are covered in several ways under Medicare:

-
Part “A” covers medications taken in the hospital
-
Part “B” covers medications taken in an outpatient facility or doctor’s office
-
Part “D” covers doctor’s prescriptions filled at a pharmacy (just remember that “D” is the first letter in the word “drug.”)
You can enroll in a “stand-alone” Part D plan via a private insurance company, or you can enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan with an integrated Part D plan.

“Stand-Alone” Part D Plans Vary From State to State
Monthly premiums for these plans range from less than $20 per month to $100 per month or more. Some plans have an annual deductible while others do not.

The best way to choose a “stand-alone” Part D plan is to determine the total annual costs based upon your prescription drug needs.
